 genealogical research. Members of the Genealogical Society of Broward 
 County (GSBC) will be on-site to assist you\, answer your questions\, and 
 help you navigate the many tools available for uncovering your family’s 
 story. It’s a welcoming space to share tips\, troubleshoot challenges\, 
 and learn how to make the most of online and in library resources. During 
 the Open Lab\, you can:\n\n\n	Search the Genealogy Collection through 
 NovaCat and check out physical materials on the 4th floor.\n	Access NSU 
 databases that support genealogical research.\n	Sign up for a free NSU 
 Alvin Sherman Library Card—available to anyone who lives\, works\, or 
 studies in Broward County. Choose a physical card or an e Card.\n\n\n\nGSBC 
 Monthly Program - Oral History for the Family Historian\n\nOral history is 
 more than opening an app and asking someone to reminisce. In this engaging 
 presentation\, Linda Barnickel provides a practical introduction to 
 planning\, creating\, recording\, preserving\, finding\, and using oral 
 histories in genealogical research.\n\nAttendees will learn how 
 to:\n\n\n	Ask effective questions\n	Use best interviewing 
 techniques\n	Understand legal and ethical considerations\n	Locate and use 
 oral histories created by others\n\n\nThis overview will prepare you to 
 confidently incorporate oral history into your family history research and 
 deepen your understanding of its many applications.\n\nFeatured 
 Speaker\n\nLinda Barnickel\, Author\, Archivist\, Historian\, Independent 
 Researcher\n\nLinda has extensive experience creating and curating oral 
 histories\, including work with the Veterans History Project in partnership 
 with the Library of Congress. She is the author of Oral History for the 
 Family Historian: A Basic Guide and the award-winning Milliken’s Bend: A 
 Civil War Battle in History and Memory. She has presented widely on oral 
 history\, archives\, genealogy\, and military history\, and is an active 
 member of multiple historical and archival organizations.\n\n \n\nAs a 
 membership benefit\, we are pleased to inform you that this genealogical 
 event will be recorded and made available exclusively to members of GSBC.
