Five Steps to Writing a Great Story or Book with Laurie Friedman

Five Steps to Writing a Great Story or Book with Laurie Friedman In-Person

Writing a great story, or even an entire book, is a whole lot easier if the task is broken down into manageable pieces. In this workshop, bestselling author Laurie Friedman will guide participants through the five phases of creating a great story or book which include: writing a hook statement, creating a story arc, fleshing out characters, refining and outlining the plot, and determining a realistic writing and editing plan. This interactive workshop will include a question and answer session at the end, as well as handouts that will be emailed to participants.

Laurie Friedman is the author and ghostwriter of over 75 picture books, easy readers, chapter books, and novels for young readers including the award-winning Mallory McDonald and Love, Ruby Valentine series. Laurie’s books have been translated into numerous languages and have received many awards including an IRA/CBC Children’s Choice Award. She speaks at schools across the country and has presented at literary conferences including ALA, NCTE, SCBWI, and IRA. Prior to writing books for children, Laurie worked in advertising. She is a native Arkansan, and in addition to writing, loves to read, bake, do yoga, watch movies, spend time with her family, and help other writers shape and sell their stories.
